A Talk About Writing by Jill Lepore

Jill Lepore is the David Woods Kemper ‘41 Professor of American History, a staff writer at The New Yorker, and the author, most recently, of The Whites of Their Eyes: The Tea Party’s Revolution and the Battle Over American History and New York Burning: Liberty and Slavery in an Eighteenth-Century City. Professor Lepore is an inspiring model for all those considering a writing life that allows them to reach a large public. She will discuss her work as a public historian, someone who is, as she once said, “a keeper of our memory as a people,” bringing historical perspective to contemporary problems.

Professor Lepore’s talk on Monday is part of the Harvard Writers at Work Lecture Series, which is co-sponsored by the Harvard College Writing Program, the Harvard Extension School, the Harvard Review, the Harvard College Program in General Education, and the Harvard College Women’s Center. The Series seeks to bring together students, faculty, and others in the Harvard community and the public to think about the transformational power of writing in people’s lives and in the world.
